Over the weekend we pushed out what is perhaps the biggest update to WORKetc since launching the original beta version. There is too much to cover here, so what I've done below is called out the highlights and included an image and videos to do the explaining.
Customize Tables (data grids)
Wherever there is a data table in WORKetc you can now decide what information you want to see on that table and in what order.
Drag 'n Drop the order of columns, resize cell width
View what is important to you. For example, any number of custom fields can now be viewed on any table.
Choose what information to view with a simple "click-on, click-off"
Custom fields are now viewable options in any table.
Updated Opportunities and Leads
The "leads and opportunities" tab has been re-loaded into the new WORKetc tabbed interface, allowing for fast switching between views.
Change the interface language to match the terminology of your business. Leads can now be called Opportunities, Ideas or whatever you choose. This sounds like an inconsequential change, but over the years we've had so many requests from people that were more comfortable calling Leads as Opportunities (and of course, vice versa).
Customize the "Leads" view by turning on or off column data and choose to view custom fields on the table as as well.
Quick Edit a "Sales Leads" on screen without having to navigate to a new page.
Expanded Permissions
Greater control over access to modules, including a new 'view-only' setting
Introduction of Work Groups to WORKetc, allowing you to create groups of people and assign them the same permission set. This will be expanded later this month to include Work Groups in contact pickers. For example, you'll be able to assign groups of people to a project, rather than select them individually.
Saved Views (or slice & dice your data)
Create complex searches and then save that search for easy access. Saved views are instantly updated as your data changes.
Use any number of variables to define your search such as tags, custom fields, location, invoice totals, product history, project status and more.
Export that data as standard CSV for use in other applications
Custom Field Groups
Create custom field types from a number of new types including labels, date selection, product picker, selection menus, file upload and more.
Assign Custom Field Groups to display inside of any WORKetc module including contacts, projects, support cases and more.
New User Guide
Also launching today is our new user-guide. What we've been focussing on is how to make a manual meaningful, how to give it context.
Most software manuals are incredibly dry, some might even be considered painful. They tell you exactly how to do something, but rarely venture into why you would want to it in the first place. So what we have focussed on is to explain the why of using a WORKetc feature, rather than just the how. By providing relevant examples and scenarios, it is our goal to help you set your business up with WORKetc to better manage and grow.
Still to come...
Sales Pipeline. This is 100% complete, we're just staggering the rollouts to be safe.
Xero Integration. This is now with Xero for their final review and approval, expect this as soon as the end of this week.
Google Contacts 2-way sync. We're still testing the new sync algorithms but looking really positive.
Quickbooks Desktop Integration. This project reminds me why we don't develop for the desktop - so many installation issues. We're making progress and are working on the final issue with carrying across line-item discounts.
Outlook Add-in. The contact sync we need to finish to release the beta of this is dependent on the Google Contact sync.
Just another reason why worketc is AMAZING. Thank you for helping make doing our just just that much easier.

@Maria Elena ... jeez Maria, back off already! Talk about raining on someone's bonfire.
Anyway - WOW, massive improvement guys. The table results in reports and saved views is exactly what is needed. And it works really well. I am well impressed.
Previously you said that to give people reporting tools you'd have to give them access to the raw data and that would make it too technical. Not at all - you've done exactly what's needed, provide a "tick box, drag & drop" report building system that allows people to slice and dice display their data to their heart's content.
However, there's one major thing missing. We desparately need timesheets in saved views. It's the most important thing we report on more than anything else in order to see what we're doing, need to bill and report back to our customers. Please can you add this asap!
Other than that - brilliant. Thank you guys.
Dan @ WORKetc Saturday 10, March 2012 10:48 PM
@ Andrew - thanks for the heads up on that Maria Elena comment. It is a paid service that some of our competitors are using to post promo comments on our blog - we're getting hit about 3 or 4 times a week.
And Yes - we should absolutely have timesheets on that Saved View list. Will look to add in March as we refine the tool based on user feedback.

When will Support Cases get the new data grids? At the moment it is impossible to bulk select support cases and modify them - a drag when you have several hundred to work through.
Looks good otherwise!

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!! HAVE BEEN PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THESE GOLDEN FEATURES !!!!!!!!!!!
Martijn Tuesday 13, March 2012 11:45 PM
Now we can start using it ;-)
Luke Wednesday 14, March 2012 8:44 AM
Hey Dan, nice additions! Any chance of different permissions being able to be assigned to knowledge base entries? I'd like to be able to keep departments silo'd.

Fantastic updates

This all looks great... We are still considering Worketc amongst a few other cloud based systems...
Is there any possibility of Worketc integrating with Apple's iCloud service?
Primarily i'm talking about the following:
a. Syncing contacts with iCloud. Contacts could be synced with a particular contact group within iCloud or alternatively an entirely different account could be set up so that ios devices and Macs could sync outside of iCloud... A Worketc Cloud essentially...
b. iCal sync. This would be awesome. The ability to subscribe to the Worketc calendar in iCal (oh and I believe the same technology works on Outlook too by the way) would be so helpful. I currently use Basecamp by 37Signals for project management and this syncs with my iCal quite well...
Are these features planned?

OMG! These custom tools solve so much for our business. Finally! Huge strive that's going to be very useful.
Galin Wednesday 14, March 2012 4:04 PM
I really like the new field groups but they're not going to be very useful until the text is searchable.
Paul McEwan Wednesday 14, March 2012 5:43 PM
Thanks! I noticed things changing and really like it. Great explanations!
BTW, Quickbooks has a new online version now.

Some nice improvements. I would like to second Gareth and also cast a vote for sales prices based on a saved markup on cost for each product(4-5 pricing levels would be good)
Dan @ WORKetc Sunday 18, March 2012 12:51 AM
@Damian - Support Cases won't switched across to new data grids as they require preview text (so another UX solution is needed) however we will be adding a bulk select tool in the next 2-3 weeks as part of a major UX "clean up" we've just started.
@Luke - later in the year we'll be adding the next phase to permissions that would allow privacy on KB sections. This is closely related to approvals.
@Gareth - sorry, no plans for iCloud integration. We already have a syncing with iCal
@Galin - planned for a future release, but please make the suggestion in the Feature Suggestions forum.
@Richard - please submit/vote at Feature Suggestions forum.

This update is crazy amazing. The permissions are the killer feature. Or maybe the custom fields are the killer feature. No, wait, it's the custom tables. I now have no reason to use any other product to manage my business. I agree with @artur, WETC is a major component of my success as I expand my team and client-base. You guys are good at this. Keep up the good work.
