Worketc integration with DropBox.com Sync

Thu, 7 Jul '11 @ 9:16 PM
I have not seen this on here but would love to see worketc intigrate with DropBox.com file sync service. To be able to assign/attach DropBox files to activities (projects, tasks etc.) in worketc would be a great boost for our business workflow.

Would like to hear if anyone else would be interested.

Thanks for your suggestion Roman.

We do integrate with Evernote. It might help you a little?

Dropbox sync would be a fantastic feature.

Allowing documents stored to be accessed & edited directly in excel/word desktop apps.

Huge fan of dropbox. This would be clutch.

I agree, I use dropbox all the time.. having the ability to associate a folder to a client would be brilliant.

I know this post is a little old, but I thought I would through in that there is also box.net; which seems to be trying to position itself as a as a more business focussed version for dropbox (which I also love).

My understanding is drop.net comes with 500 GB of storage and is integrated with GDocs. They have what seems to be a 30 day trial but what they are not clear on what their pricing is after the tirial if you want to buy. They want you to call regarding pricing.

dropbox for business / dropbox team edition is not cheap with 350 GB and 5 users I believe, costing 750 / year and seems to offer similar functionality to what box.net does; box.net may have slightly finer grain control over file permissions etc but I have not used it enough to be sure. If I find out what the drop.net pricing is I will post it .

Anyhow, thought I would throw that out there if this ever is considered; both dropbox and drop.net should be looked at as possible integration points for enhancing secure cloud based file access.

BTW; I do not work for nor are affiliated with either drop* companies. ;)

Thanks Sol - appreciate the input. I'll take a look at box.net - someone else mentioned it to me yesterday also.

Personally I'm now using Google Cloud Connect and have it sync all my documents automatically - a great help when working from another machine, though I'm not too keen on using Google Docs directly as very often formatting is not retained. I've also been using Wuala. There are an increasing number of services like this, each with the own take on a common theme

Ya, I see the point; something like this is becoming a crowded space in terms of offerings, so from WorkEct point of view, if you did do an integration, who should you integrate with? You will likely not make everyone happy. ;)

To bad there was not some standard interface for this type of functionality that all the different companies could agree to and implement; they companies like yours could just support that interface. Maybe there is? I don't know.

The other way to look at it would be to ensure your API supported what was needed for the online storage / replication companies to integrate with WorkEct and then WorkEct users to ask them to integrate to you. ;)

Google Cloud Connect is fine if a) you use Office and b) you use Windows. ;) That rules out a many people I think, especially a) in small business when there are free tools like OpenOffice that work very well IMO.

I had not hear of Wuala, looks like as you described, thanks for the tip, and for your reply.

Thanks again for a very nice product.

So do we all see a Dropbox integration as a folder within WORKetc Files area? Similar to the recent WORKetc Google Docs integration:

Or is there some other method/scenario in mind?

Yes, we use dropbox a lot. This would be a great addition. Adding it the way you guys added google docs as shown in Dan's screenshot looks like a logical solution to me.

Hi Dan

How do I connect my dropbox account with Worketc?
I also like Wuala, how do I connect?

Thanks

Gustavo, this is the feature suggestion forum. Integration with dropbox.com is just that right now - a suggestion for future development. You can connect with Evernote, though, and details are in the blog.

Hi WORKetc,

If Dan's suggestion is being considered, which would be great, I'd like to also suggest a SugarSync folder too. For multi-users/business, I prefer SugarSync to Dropbox.com, because SugarSync can give read-only access to folders, preventing an employee from accidentally dragging a folder somewhere and deleting everything.

Thanks,
Daniel.

Thanks for the suggestion Daniel. It's very likely to get overlooked as it is now though... please feel free to create a new thread specifically about SugarSync if this is something you'd like us to consider.

Thanks!

Please please please include dropbox.com access on this system - we use google apps and dropbox in our business and are new to worketc - love it - but dropbox.com would make life a lot easier...

I'm a heavy user of Box.net, and I really think it's very important to integrate with Box.net. In the mainland China, it's sometimes hard to access Dropbox.com but Box.net always works well.

Hi Chang

Please create a new suggestion thread regarding Box.net - it's likely to get overlooked in the DropBox thread.

Thanks

I am a longtime drop fan and a paid user. I like Dan's idea of having the Dropbox show up in the same area as the WORKetc folders. Clean easy access is what the cloud need to be.
Great work and thanks for the community support.

I too would very much like to see DropBox integration with WORKetc. DropBox is file syncing done right. WORKetc is small business management done right. It would be good to see the two of them working together.

Dropbox integration would be a huge addition. If it worked in a similar fashion to Box or GoogleDocs, as Dan described, that would be perfect from a UX standpoint.

Everything I have is set up on Dropbox.com and I don't want to switch over to Box.net. I'd love to see Dropbox.com be included -- would be a huge help.

Thanks,

Tiffany
