Assign a task to multiple projects?

Tue, 18 Oct '11 @ 6:01 AM
Hi guys,

We frequently need to assign a task and also a timesheet entry to multiple projects - for example when there's an update to the software we use, we have to update every client site. At the moment the only way I can see of logging this is to manually create a task for each site, and manually create a timesheet entry for each update.

It would be hugely useful if it was possible to create an item (e.g. task, timesheet entry) and specify more than one project to add it to - appreciate this may not be possible to do with timesheets but it must be possible with tasks?

Hi Ruth

this maybe something for the features forum, but how about looking at it from another angle...

Rather than adding the task "update software to version x" under projects "website A" and "website B", could you create a project "update software to version x" and have tasks under that to apply to website A and website B? If you used a project template it would speed the process up even more.

Hi Steve,

I didn't post it in feature request as I thought I was doing something wrong/missing something that was already there - and it seems that is the case! I'll have a play and see if I can get that idea to work!

Hi Steve,

I am still struggling with this to the point that we simply do not add these tasks which is becoming a logistical nightmare when I need to run off a report for clients on what activity we've done over the previous quarter.

I can't have everything under one project, each client needs a separate project. We simply need to be able to assign one task to multiple projects.

If that were possible to do as a template 'task' then that would be ideal, but I don't feel we need to do a template project for every update (we generally are doing 2-3 a week for various clients) and we need to be able to have granular control such that we could perhaps apply to all clients who have a particular tag (although we could manually specify if necessary).
