Companies vs. People

Hello,

I'm setting up our contact list and I want to be sure that I'm understanding WE correctly.

It seems that you can't have a single entry that has both a company and a contact for that company. Instead, you have to have a person entry and then link it to a company entry.

If this is true, I can only use the email address in one place. So if I put the email with my contact, my company does not show that email address in the contact list unless I open the company window and view the contacts for that company.

Do I have this straight?

This is a little cumbersome for us because most of the companies we work with only have 1 contact we work with. But in terms of searchability, we want both the person's name and the company's name in our contact list.

Am I misunderstanding your system?

Hi Julia

Yes, you are correct. Companies and Contacts are distinct entries and cannot share an email address.

If you just want a single record with both contact person and company combined, rather than attaching one to the other, you could use a custom field.
