split invoice

Wed, 25 Apr '12 @ 1:13 AM
I send my customers a 20% bill upfront and 80% at delivery. Sometimes even 20-70-10.

It would be very handy if WORKetc. would support partial invoices. It does so already based on line items (you can bill any set of line items on a quote), but my wish would be based on a percentage of the total.

Paul my company does business this way too. A project for us consists of purchasing a lot of equipment and installing it into our clients buildings. Our process is similar
  • deposit payment to procure equipment
  • 2nd payment against delivery of equipment to site
  • 3rd payment after installation is complete

  • For those who do not know worketc already has the ability to automatically create invoices against project milestones. These milestones can have a value attached to them which makes billing super easy. If this could be modified to use a percentage value of a linked quote/estimate/invoice as the value attached a milestone then the project management aspect would easily be realised by my company. Worketc has the ability to accept partial payments against an invoice and we need to do this with an invoice which will include equipment and installation costs. The invoice just needs to show 1 item which is the milestone and associated milestone value.
Right now if we use the milestone value it means we have no way to record equipment purchases by our customers as equipment purchased is only recorded on an invoice. If I manually input the percentage value of an invoice as a project milestone then I have no choice but to externally create invoices for submission for payment to our client otherwise the amount will be double entered on the accounts part of the worketc system.

Am quiet surprised nobody asked for this before but obviously not many companies like mine or Pauls here. I hope my post makes sense and will expand upon in a later post if anyone has questions. If anyone has any suggestions or pointers it would be most appreciated.
