Live Chat

Tue, 2 Nov '10 @ 6:39 PM
Currently there is no way to let our customers know when someone is available for live chat or not. When the customer or potential customer logs into live chat, a message pops up in their window stating that "someone will be with them shortly", regardless if a support specialist is actually logged in or not. In essence, the customer could end up sitting there for a very long time!

What I suggest is a more traditional feature of chat software that includes an online/offline indicator to the customer so they know when someone is available for chat or not and an option for them to leave a message if nobody is available.

... or even just change the
"Someone should be attending to you shortly."
message to something along the lines of
"If someone is available to chat they will be attending to you shortly. If no one is available right now, please try later of send a message via our website." ??

Otherwise I can't use this feature, but would like to.

I do not even see how to turn chat on for my users. Where is that even?

Any interest in a desktop widget for this that would beep and alert when a new chat request is received? Similar in style to the Timesheet widget?

@ William - go to Work -> Customer Support and scroll to the bottom of the page (email support if you need more help)

@WorkETC - YES! I'm interested in a tool that would do that.
I'm still trying to work out how the chat feature works, but I can see the application of it.

Yes, I think this would definitely be better than what we have now..... which is nothing. :-)

I agree desktop widget as an option. I would be very upset, as a customer, if I waited because I thought someone was going to engage me and that someone never showed up. In fact this possibility makes this component, almost, useless. I would guess your utilization of this component, to engage with customers, is almost zero.

This issue can happen if the whole team either does not have worketc open, in which case chat should not be an option it should default to email or just show not available. Or if everyone has worketc open but does not have the worketc tab open. In this case a repeating audible event would fix the problem.

Without both features, this feature is , almost, useless.
Feature 1: Code on webpage to indicate "nobody home if noone is signed in. Obviously would need options for signed in employees to be included i the "chat pool".
Feature 2: Audible event that repeats until someone catches the Live Chat. (this should be easy to code on site)

I know Google chat beeps at me.

etc. Research has further told me that there is no auto logout feature for worketc in general. If that is the case then being part of the "chat pool" should give an Employee access to define a status. Available for Chat, not available for chat. This should automatically change to not available after some delay.

Dan,

Very interested in a widget that would tell us when a LiveChat request is being made.
Oh, and being able to set Live Chat status would be fairly important for us as we would need to set it to office outside of office hours .

Thanks,

Mark

Could I go so far as to suggest functionality like GotoMeeting?

If I were able to get my clients into a live chat via the support portal, and then they have the option of sharing their desktop and handing over controls to me, that would be absolutely awesome!

I believe the chat loses it's functionability if you don't have an option to create a support case from a chat entry and not having a pop-up window that wouldn't require additional installation. The online/offline status would be nice to have.
