How to take a screenshot

Here are several ways you can take a screenshot that you can send to the support team. Sending a screenshot can give support team members more information about your inquiry.

We also use Jing and SnagIt extensively ourselves, and have also been impressed with the screen recording services at screenr.com

Windows

  1. Click on the window you want to take a screenshot of.
  2. Hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and press the Print Screen key. This is usually located near to the Page Up and Page Down keys. It is sometimes labelled Prt Scr.
  3. Open some image editing software. Paint is available in the Start menu under All Programs and then Accessories.
  4. Choose the Paste option from the Edit menu or hold Ctrl on your keyboard and press the V key.
  5. Choose the Save option from the File menu and remember to choose JPEG or PNG as the file type.

Alternatively you can use the Snipping Tool.

The Snipping Tool is available in the Start menu under All Programs and then Accessories.
If it is not there, go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features.
  1. Click Turn Windows features on/off in panel on left.
  2. Make sure Tablet PC components are checked.
  3. Now you will find the Snipping Tool in Accessories.
  4. Use the Snipping Tool to select part of your screen and generate a screenshot.

Mac

  1. Hold down the Command, Shift, and 4 keys on your keyboard and press the Space bar.
  2. You should now have a camera for a cursor.
  3. Highlight the window you want to take a screensot of and click on it.
A new image file should appear on your desktop.

Linux

In most distributions you simply press the Print Screen key on your keyboard and a dialog box appears asking you to save the screenshot. Other distributions save the screenshot straight into your home directory or onto your desktop.
